Discovery Channel promoted the 30th anniversary of Shark Week with art installations at Santa Monica Pier in California. Artists recreated four species of sharks using upcycled and recycled materials that frequently pollute the ocean. The art pieces were created from plastic bottles, driftwood, aluminum cans, and cardboard by design company, Nest Environments. The structures will eventually head to Discovery Channel’s offices in New York for permanent display. Discovery Channel also hosted a beach cleanup in Santa Monica and Rockaway Beach in New York, Osterman Beach in Chicago, South Point Pier Park in Miami, and Beverly Triton Beach in Annapolis, Maryland.
