As someone who calls Long Beach home, the city has certainly changed over the past two decades. VIP Records is gone, our area code went from 213 to 562 and our once great newspaper has been destroyed by vulture capitalists. And yet, the sound of the city has largely remained intact — it’s hard not to drive down the street and hear music from local legends like Sublime or the city’s favorite son, Snoop Dogg. Today, Youtube released a trailer for its upcoming documentary on G Funk, a mix of gangster rap and 70s soul, first pioneered by Dr. Dre and later Nate Dogg and the D.O.C. Check out the trailer below — its short and will take you less time than it would to hit the East Side of the LBC on a mission trying to find Mr. Warren G.
