Produced by legendary photographer Danny Clinch and C3 Presents, Sea. Hear. Now. festival is slated to take over Asbury Park next month in September. The debut festival will feature headlining performances from Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, Jack Johnson, Brandi Carlile, and Social Distortion.
Other artists for the New Jersey festival include Incubus, Blondie, the Front Bottoms, Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, Deer Tick, and Nicole Atkins.
Sea.Hear.Now is set for Sept. 29–30 at North Beach Asbury Park and Bradley Park and will celebrate music along with surf and art. In addition to sets by G. Love and Special Sauce, SOJA, Langhorne Slim, and My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel, the event will feature “Expression Sessions” from professional surfers like Sam Hammer, Balaram Stack, Rob Kelly and more.
The festival will also have a Shaper’s Gallery that will showcase surfboard making. The Shaper’s Alley will be a living, breathing, workshop where the hand-picked craftsmen will make wave riding tools spanning the generations, from boards made of wood to today’s cutting edge technology.
Festival producer Clinch will also recreate his Transparent Gallery space and showcase his collection of iconic images of artists on the lineup.
“I am really excited for this gallery,” Clinch said in a statement. “Over the years of spending time with musicians, I noticed that quite a few of them were also painters or illustrators. It occurred to me how special it would be to create a gallery at the festival that could showcase this part of their creative process and be able to give fans a chance to hear their favorite musicians talk about their art.”
The pop-up gallery will include Incubus front man Brandon Boyd’s trance inducing chromatic paintings hanging with enlarged photographic stills from Jack Johnson’s dreamy surf films. Nicole Atkins’ vibrant abstractions and Deertick’s Ian O’Neil’s visceral drawings mingle with Danny Clinch’s iconic portraits of music legends, including many of Sea.Hear.Now’s performers.
