SMG and Live Nation are the winners of an RFP by Onondaga County to run the 17,500-capacity Lakeview Amphitheater on Onondaga Lake.
“SMG was selected as venue manager and Live Nation as promoter,” Deputy County Executive Martin Skahen told Amplify. “We are in negotiations with both.” Contracts for both companies are expected to be for three years with an operational budget of $1.9 million that will include revenue from the events the two produce.
Jim McCue from SMG told Amplify that Kelly Carr would be the amphitheater’s GM. Carr had previously served as the director of sales and events for the SMG-managed Albuquerque Convention Center.
Construction on the $50-million Lakeview Amphitheater wrapped up in August, and the building was officially opened with a Sept. 3 concert by Miranda Lambert. County officials are planning to bring between 15 and 24 shows to the amphitheater in 2016. SMG also manages the Oncenter – Pirro Convention Center and War Memorial Arena, both in Syracuse. The Lakeview Amphitheater replaces the New York State Fair Grandstand, which was torn down last week.
