LIVE NATION ACQUIRES SOUTH AFRICAN PROMOTER BIG CONCERTS

big concertsMonday, Live Nation Entertainment announced that it acquired controlling interest in South Africa’s leading concert promoter Big Concerts International Propriety Limited, increasing Live Nation’s influence to 38 countries around the world. Chairman and Founder of Big Concerts Attie van Wyk and CEO Justin van Wyk will keep their positions as Live Nation takes over. According to Alan Ridgeway, LN’s president of international and emerging markets, South Africa has been attracting more artists since it hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2010. Attie van Wyk said in the release, “We are extremely proud and excited to be joining the Live Nation team.” ✈️


CHABON NAMED GM OF KANSAS EXPOCENTRE

chabonOn February 1, SMG appointed industry vet Jeff Chabon as the GM of the Kansas Expocentre. Chabon replaced H.R. Cook who was appointed the GM for SMG based in Iowa. Chabon has been in the industry for 35 years, starting out in marketing and group sales with minor league sports and moving on to handle marketing at World Entertainment Services, working with venues like Sandstone Amphitheater, Concert Productions International/BCL Group, the Palladium Amphitheatre at Carowinds Theme Park. He went on to create his own company, Chabon Entertainment Group, in 1992. He left his most recent position as director of booking at the AT&T Center in San Antonio to join the Kansas Expocentre this month.????


VIOLENCE BREAKS OUT AT RAP CONCERT THIS WEEKEND

Screen Shot 2016-02-22 at 10.36.18 AMFans at a rap concert in New York got into an ugly confrontation with venue security during Saturday night’s Skate Maloley concert at Webster Hall. Some disturbing video of the incident depicts an all-out brawl at the venue. Maloley is also shown trying to defend fans. It is undetermined what exactly triggered security to lash out, but, in an announcement on its Tumblr page, Webster Hall announced that investigations are underway, adding that “there are misreports about what took place. Webster Hall’s staff do NOT carry tasers and are not armed. They carry strobe flashlights.” Maloley has since canceled a string of shows via Twitter, most recently his show in Charlotte. The rapper also said that they’ll be having shows in the future to make up for his halted Skaterade Tour.????
