PHISH’S CURVEBALL EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO WATER CONTAMINATION
Phish has been forced to cancel their Curveball festival slated for this weekend due to severe flooding in the Schuyler County area and possible water contamination at the festival site. The sold-out show was set to run from Aug. 17-19 in Watkins Glen, New York. New York State Department of Health released a statement saying, “This week’s severe storm created untenable conditions, including the inability to deliver clean drinking water to patrons and vendors as confirmed by test results delivered today.” The band also released a statement apologizing to fans who had gone to great lengths to be there. Refunds are expected at a later date.
AEG PRESENTS NAMES SIMON JONES SVP OF LIVE MUSIC INTERNATIONAL
AEG Presents has tapped Simon Jones for the newly created position of Senior Vice President Live Music International. Jones will report directly to the CEOs of AEG Presents London, Steve Homer and Toby Leighton-Pope. Jones will head up the international promoting operations for AEG Presents UK, expanding the companies’ international touring footprint, working closely with the AEG offices in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Jones began as an intern at the brand new O2 Arena in London and has worked his way up to a senior position.
CINDY COLLINS NAMED GM OF BIG SANDY SUPERSTORE ARENA
SMG and the City of Huntington, have announced that Cindy Collins has been named General Manager of the arena. Collins is a Huntington, West Virginia native and has previously served as the GM for Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center in Pikeville. Prior to that, she spent 14 years as COO of the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, Kentucky. “I want to thank Mayor Williams, City Manager Cathy Burns and SMG for the opportunity and the confidence they have placed in me,” Collins said in a release. “It is a both a great privilege and a great responsibility, but one to which I am totally committed.”
