NPR MUSIC NAMES LAUREN ONKEY SENIOR DIRECTOR
Lauren Onkey has been named NPR Music’s new senior director, Billboard reports. Onkey will work with National Public Radio’s team of reporters, music critics, videographers and podcasters. She also will oversee sponsorships and events for local NPR stations. NPR Music, which celebrates it 10th anniversary in December, is currently working on the Tiny Desk video concert series, the new artist series Slingshot and Turning the Tables, a series focused on key albums by women.
BOOKING AGENT ROB POTTS KILLED IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH
Australian concert promoter Rob Potts, booking agent to Keith Urban, Tommy Emmanuel, Lee Kernaghan and James Blundell, was killed Friday in a motorcycle crash on the west coast of Tasmania. He was 65. Potts was responsible for bringing some huge U.S. country stars to the land down under, including Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Dixie Chicks and others. Taylor Swift in 2009 performed for the first time in Australia thanks to Potts’ efforts. He is survived by son Jeremy Potts and ex-wife Sally.
AEG HAS SUSTAINABILITY GOALS FOR ALL ITS VENUES, VP SAYS
AEG wants to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, conserve water and reduce waste at all of its venues. The company’s VP of Energy and Environment, John Marler, told Yale Climate Connections that his team is committed “to do what we can to minimize our emissions and to constantly look for ways we can make incremental improvements.” AEG’s facilities already have sustainability features, including rooftop solar panels at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and a green roof garden at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
