NATIONAL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT & MSG EXTEND DEAL
National Invitational Tournament and Madison Square Garden have extended their agreement to keep the event at the New York venue for another year. Madison Square Garden has hosted the NCAA postseason tournament since its beginnings in 1938. The agreement guarantees that the semifinal and championship games of the NIT will be played in New York through the 82nd NIT Championship. “The NIT and Madison Square Garden have a long and tremendous history,” said Dan Gavitt, NCAA SVP of basketball in a release. “We’re excited that the championship will continue for another year at the World’s Most Famous Arena.”
AEG FACILITIES APPOINTS HUGH LOMBARDI AS TARGET CENTER GM
AEG Facilities has just announced that Hugh Lombardi will take over as the General Manager of Minneapolis’ Target Center and become Regional Vice President of AEG Facilities. Lombardi will have cross functional responsibilities serving as a Regional VP of AEG Facilities where he will oversee other venues in the AEG Facilities network, as well as assisting with other initiatives undertaken by the company. Lombardi spent the last 16 years in executive roles and as GM for numerous arenas around the country, including Oklahoma City’s Chesapeake Energy Arena, home to NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder and the adjacent Cox Convention Center, Boston’s TD Garden, home to the NHL’s Boston Bruins and NBA’s Boston Celtics and in Nashville, at the Bridgestone Arena, home to the NHL’s Predators.
ILLINOIS’ SPACE VENUE CELEBRATES 10 YEARS WITH SUMMER SERIES
Space, a music venue minutes outside of Chicago in Evanston, has announced a summer concerts series featuring Mavis Staples, Dinosaur Jr., New Pornographers, and Slick Rick. The outdoor summer concert series called Out of Space, will celebrate 10 yeas of live music with Space and run from June 21-Aug. 26. The celebration will be spread out amongst several venues in Evanston, Illinois. “Out of Space is a bucket list event for us; a chance to step outside of the 4 walls of Space and bring truly top tier performers to outdoor situations that are uniquely Evanston,” said Jake Samuels, Talent Buyer for Space.
