TAMPA BAY RAYS END RELATIONSHIP WITH CENTERPLATE
Centerplate’s contract with the Tampa Bay Rays and Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida is coming to an end, effective Dec. 31. Company officials say the cancellation was finalized several months ago and was not related to a recent news report about the health and safety record of the facility. The venue responded to the report with a statement saying its leaders are working with Centerplate, its concessions partner, and the Florida Health Department to “provide even greater oversight of the nightly concessions operations.”

SCOTTRADE CENTER FACES OPPOSITION TO PUBLIC FUNDING
A lawsuit was filed on Friday by opponents of publicly-funded upgrades to the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The lawsuit alleges that the use of public funds for the $64 million project is unconstitutional in Missouri since the taxpayer money will be used “for the purpose of assisting that corporation to make further profits for itself.” In addition, St. Louis Comptroller Darlene Green is refusing to sign the financial agreement that would fund the city’s commitment to the arena. In a statement, Kiel Center Partners, which own the home team, called lawsuit “frivolous” and said the comptroller has a legal duty to sign the agreement.
