OPEN LETTER CALLS OUT SEXUAL HARASSMENT, ASSAULT IN SWEDISH MUSIC INDUSTRY
Sexual harassment and abuse accusations against powerful men have rocked U.S. politics and the entertainment industry. Now, they are also rattling the Swedish music industry, Music Business Worldwide reports. Nearly 2,000 women working in the industry say they have experienced sexual assault, harassment or overt sexism. The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter published an open letter from the women calling for change. Those who signed are producers, artists, songwriters, DJs, artist managers, A&Rs, booking agents and publishers, including Robyn, First Aid Kit and Zara Larsson.
MATOMA TO PERFORM AT NOBEL PEACE PRIZE CONCERT
Norwegian DJ and producer Matoma is scheduled to perform at this year’s Nobel Peace Prize concert Dec. 24. In a statement reported by Dancing Astronaut, the artist said the prize “is all about spreading the love, and you know that’s always been my message, so I’m humbled and honored to be asked to perform at this beautiful and incredible concert.” The 2017 Nobel Peace Prize is being awarded to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, or ICAN.
EL MOCAMBO TO REOPEN WITH TICKETMASTER CANADA
Ticketmaster Canada has been appointed as the ticketer for Toronto’s legendary El Mocambo venue. This spring will mark El Mocambo’s 70th anniversary and it is currently being renovated for the anniversary. “The music fan experience is paramount to me and my team,” said Michael Wekerle, owner of the El Mocambo and CEO of El Mocambo Productions in a release. “We want the El Mo concert-going experience to be both amazing and seamless, and obviously that experience begins with purchasing a ticket. We’re proud to have an industry leader managing this transaction for us, as well as the follow-up needed to help us maintain and grow the El Mocambo community.”
